Story and Comments.: It was the fourth day of Iowa's second shot gun season we had a snow storm the night before and was still very cold and windy we huntded pretty hard all day with out any success saw lots of does but no bucks yet and was getting towards the end of the day We decided to try one more drive on a narrow bank of a valley with a few small hill and the end the bank is covered with cider trees so it was a good place for deer to get out of the wind. Luckly for me it was my turn to post the end we wher going to post had small drive way to the bottom of the valley on the way in see notice alot of tracks in the snow on the top side of the bank going in the trees so we knew deer had been in there some time that day we felt the top would be the hot spot and since the other two guys that where posting had already shot a deer so I got to head to the top to sit we split up and headed to our spots I got half way up the bank getting close to a small but very thick patch of cider trees which was only may 40 yards off the drive way we just came down when something jumped up and took off runnnig but because of the trees I could not see what it was but luckly he followed the coner of the hill and that truned him to the right and giveing my a chance to see him good and see that it was a pretty god buck He was still in some cider trees but they wher short enough that I could see his head I let out two quick shot through the tree But didn't think I had even come close to hitting him but ran over to the last place I saw him to check for blood and did not see anything so I thought I better get to the top to see If I could at lest see where he was headed. I got to the top of the hill but saw nothing out ahead of me. then I saw some movement to my left on the other edge of the hiil moveing up a small gulley it was him but again becuase of the crest of the hill could only see his head so I knew I would have to get up the hill futher and fast so I ran 20 yards far enough to see the top half of his body he was about 60 yards away I took quick aim and shot He went down right there. I thought I had him but as I got closer he stood back up I had to shoot one more time to put him down for good. As I looked him over I saw why it took him longer to get up the hill then me I had hit and broke one of his front legs with one of the shots through the tree a little luck never hurts What a fun hunting season can't wait to go next year.
