Year of Harvest: 2003 Time of Harvest: 4:00 Story and Comments.: The second day of rifle season. I came home from work to notice the neighbors putting on a drive. I decided to hurry out and watch to see if anything would get pushed up the creek bed just down from our house. I took the long way to the spot I would sit. First I walked through the woods that lays directly behind a development, to push anything out that might be laying down. I sat down in a open field looking down over the creek where I expected to see deer. Within 15 minutes I heard the sound of a deer trotting throught the woods I just purged. I glanced over my shoulder to see a huge rack. Knowing I could not shoot in that direction, I turned away figuring if he saw me he would bolt back up over the hill to the houses. He continued down the same path I just walked. I could hear him jump the fence directly behind me. Then I caught a glimpse of him on my left side. I quickly pulled up, he froze, I shot. He was within 15 yards. I could see the blood fly, but he didn't even flinch. He took off down the hill and up the other side. By the time he was behind my woodpile, I had hit him two more times. He layed down within 100 yard of my house. He has an awesome rack. His right G2 is 13.5 inches long. I will have his rack scored and post the results. I still wonder if he was pushed up by the drive, or if he was laying in the woods and followed me out? I have not talked to anyone who saw him earlier that day.
